about Kramer Wimberley
Drawn to the water at an early age, Kramer Wimberley was destined to spend his life below the surface of the water. From his early days as a youth on the Shores of Sandy Hook, New Jersey he developed an interest in what the underwater world had to offer. It would take until adulthood, during the summer of 1985, for him to have his chance to explore his new found (underwater) home off the shores of Bermuda’s spectacular crystal-clear waters and coral crushed pink sand beaches.
Kramer has spent the last 35 years of his life as a scuba diver and became a Master Scuba Diver Trainer in 2005. Through his company Dive Tours International llc, he teaches all around the world. Since 2005, he spends most of his free time teaching people of all ages to learn to love the water. Kramer has an extensive dive résumé.
From the northern coast of Massachusetts to the Andaman Sea, Kramer has spent time above and underwater there. He also spends substantial time volunteering. Kramer served as a volunteer with the Boys and Girls Club of Newark, New Jersey for several years; and he was a volunteer diver for the State of New Jersey Camden Aquarium. For twenty years, he has volunteered thousands of hours as a scuba instructor who teaches inner city youth and others to scuba dive.
Additionally, Kramer is a volunteer safety officer for several scuba clubs, including: Aquatic Voyagers Scuba Club, Atlantic Rangers Scuba Club and Bay Area Black Divers. He is also a safety officer for the National Association of Black Scuba Divers. With experience of more than 4,500 in water dives, Kramer is a Diving with a Purpose/Youth Diving with a Purpose (DWP/YDWP) lead instructor and board member. DWP/YDWP is an underwater archeology survey program that teaches adult and teenage students to survey and document wrecked vessels, with an emphasis on historically significant wrecks.
Beyond the underwater survey archeology program, and under the DWP umbrella, Kramer created Diving with a Purpose Collective Approach to Restoring our Eco-System (DWP-CARES). This year, the CARES program became recognized by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) as a distinctive specialty designation. Working with youth and adults from around the world, through CARES, Kramer teaches coral ecosystem monitoring as a means of preserving one of our globe’s single most valuable resources.
Amidst all of the above, Kramer Wimberley is a 28-year veteran of the Newark, New Jersey Fire Department operating in several capacities, including Deputy Fire Director, and Commandant of Rescue/Hazardous Materials Unit and their Community Relations Division. For several years, he also served as Executive Officer in charge of the Division of Investigations.
